Orange

We have been busy....Madeline spent the weekend with Mimi and Poppy at the dog show in Austin and stayed in the RV with them.....the RV was the hit of the trip...she had even asked Mrs. Becky if she wanted to go in the RV with her. She LOVED it! We thought she would be coming home with us on Saturday evening when we went to watch them show (Norwich Terriers) but she quickly told us she was going to stay "right here" so she came home on Sunday. If you are curious about what a Norwich Terrier is and want to see these great dogs you can go to Itsy Bitsy Norwich Terriers. The picture below was taken by a friend of Tonnie and Jerry's at the show....Madeline loved laying in the grass.

I got out the Elmo play gym Madeline had when she was a wee one and Roan loves watching Elmo pop up and say peek-a-boo baby. He is starting to smile...I haven't gotten it on camera yet but am trying really hard to capture it. Will post if it happens soon.

It was ORANGE day at Mt. Calvary on Thursday....needless to say we did not have anything orange in the closet. So we made a quick trip to the trusty 'ol Wal-Mart and found a orange Tinkerbell shirt for Madeline to wear....perfect! I almost had to call our neighbors, who are HUGE Longhorn fans, and borrow a shirt from their daughter for Madeline to wear....knowing full well that Joseph would be in shock if his daughter wore a UT shirt to school. Our orange toy of choice for the day was a Halloween 'baritch'.....this took me forever to figure out what she was saying...then finally Madeline went to her room and pooled out the orange bear with a witch's hat...."OH, now I know what you are talking about Madeline" I said.....Joseph couldn't figure it out either when he got home and I told her to tell him what she was taking to school for orange day...he kept asking her " a barrette"...."NO DADDY a BARITCH!"....the look of confusion on his face was hilarious...finally I told her to go get it and he felt as bad as I did when she brought the BEAR WITCH!

On Friday, Mt. Calvary has parent's day AND pajama party day at school. We will be going to Chapel and lunch with Madeline. Each child was given a pumpkin carving kit (tools) and asked to bring their carved pumpkin to school on Thursday so it can be used as decoration for the luncheon on Friday. So Sunday afternoon we carved pumpkins....Madeline enjoyed it for all of 30 minutes and we were left to finish the pumpkins at dark.

Can you guess what she picked to carve????

Birthdays

We had a fun weekend of birthdays! The first one we celebrated was Roan turning ONE MONTH OLD!!! I can't believe he is already a month old. It is so true...the older you get the faster time flies. I feel like I just got home from the hospital with him....and my little girl is starting to be a big girl...it was just yesterday she was coming home from the hospital as well. All these milestones make me so happy and sad at the same time. This reminds me of a wonderful book Madeline and I checked out at the library a couple of weeks ago named Let Me Hold You Longer by Karen Kingsbury (I cried as I read it to Madeline so be prepared). I recommend it to all Mom's! It is from a mother's point of view speaking to her child about all the LASTS....we focus so much on the firsts that we sometimes forget that there will be a last. This book just helps you to remember to cherish all the moments b/c you never know when it will be the last.....and if you knew it was the last you would hold your child longer for that moment to keep it with you always. OH do I wish at times that I would have held on to some of Madeline's lasts....last time she breastfed, last time she slept in her crib, last time she fit in my arms so close to rock to sleep, etc....I would have held her so much longer! I am making an even more conscious effert to hold on to Roan's lasts b/c I know in my heart of hearts he will be my LAST child...although I would love another I don't think I will get Joseph to agree. I have found myself holding him almost all the time b/c I don't want to lose that feeling of having your child so close to you....I was in constant fear of having Madeline too spoiled of being held that I often neglected holding her as much....oh to take that back. Enough sad and on to happy!

Roan at one month-he is such a happy baby!

Our second birthday was my very very good friend Katie's son Michael's FIRST BIRTHDAY! Wow I can't believe he is a year old! Madeline could not wait to go to the party. From the minute we got into the car at 10:30 to the time we got to the party at 1:00 (we had shopping to do in Austin before the party) she talked about the birthday party...when are we going to see Michael, I'm ready for birthday cake, are we going to Katie's house, etc. etc. She had a blast, ate LOTS of cake and brought home a bag of goodies.

Madeline made a new friend at the party and they were both anxiously awaiting cake!

The pinata - what fun. This is Michael wondering what to do with that thing!

All the goodies....notice all the candy and toys in Madeline's hair....she jumped under the waterfall of goodies coming out of the pinata so excited to get some.

These stretchy skeletons are her new favorite toy...we give them a bath, sleep with them, and play with them non-stop now. Thanks Katie!

Color Days

Roan has been more alert during the day which has been nice because that means he is sleeping longer at night. A few pics of him this morning before we all left to take Madeline to school. He was having a "green day" according to Madeline.

Each month Mrs. Becky has a color of the month and the students wear that color to school on a special day. Our first 2 colors have been red and black.

In September Madeline had "red day" when Clifford the Big Red Dog was coming to school....she was so excited for that day....they made Clifford ears, read Clifford books, found bones Clifford had hidden in her class and ate "dog food." Here is a picture after Madeline got home from school in her Clifford Ears...you can't see them very well but you get the idea...and she was all in red!

Today Mrs. Becky asked all the kids to wear black (the color of the month) and to bring a toy that was black for show and tell for "black day." So last night Madeline and I picked out her black clothes and I asked her what she wanted to take to school that was black. She walked over to her little toy bin and grabbed her black purse and told me she was taking her purse to show and tell. So this morning I thought I would check one more time to see if she wanted to take a TOY to school that was black and she again said "no, I want to take my black purse." So we headed off to school with her dressed in black carrying her over-sized black purse with her Tinkerbell phone inside!

I promise I DID NOT make her pose like this....she wanted me to take "one more" for her to look at!

When I picked her up from school she had received a cute little award for all her black attire and on it read " and her black purse her Mimi gave her"....WHAT!!!! I beg to differ...I believe my daughter took that purse out of my closet not to long ago and decided it was going to be hers...I never remember Mimi giving it to her...but I thought that was cute. Apparently, Mimi gave her the (in her words) "special purse" and Oma gave her the "special phone." She can always make me laugh!

Columbus Day Fun

Madeline didn't have school today for Columbus Day so it was a nice LAZY day at home...despite having to go to the doctor with both kiddos this afternoon. We played and lazed all day....being sure to stay in our pajamas until noon. I had had a long night with Roan the night before and was extremely tired so I was so happy that we could lounge and do nothing. The big activity of the morning was making a tent/house out of a quilt with the kitchen table. Madeline spent a good hour in her tent reading books, playing Barbie and entertaining herself rather well. Oh the fun of childhood. Roan lounged around as usual in his PJ's as well.....I love being home with my kids...no matter how hectic it can get.

Roan in his gator PJ's....FYI at the doc today he is now 11 lbs and 2 oz....growing like a weed!

Pumpkins & Paint

Madeline has been asking all week to go to a pumpkin patch. Now, last year we went to a FABULOUS pumpkin patch named Dewberry Farm ....it was WONDERFUL and Madeline enjoyed it so much that I told Joseph we need to make this a family tradition. The pictures of the trip pop up on the our screensaver everyday and Madeline has been talking about them frequently now that it is "pumpkin season." We knew that it would not be possible to go this year with Roan being so young. So I thought I would take Madeline out to the local Jersey Barnyard to pick some pumpkins and look around at all the animals. Needless to say, when we got out to the barnyard, she repeatedly asked "Where is the big tractor. Where is the pumpkin patch?" I had to tell her that there is no big tractor at this farm and that the pumpkin patch is in that barn....that was the confusing one...getting pumpkins in a barn. We picked our pumpkins and she looked at me and in her words said..."I don't like this pumpkin patch can we go to next one?"
Next year my love we will go to the "next one" and begin our family tradition! We did leave with 4 big pumpkins, small decorative corn, and some gourds....and will be carving 2 of the pumpkins very soon!

The barn of pumpkins

The big pumpkin patch!

I had told Madeline that we would paint some little pumpkins after we went to H-E-B on Saturday morning. The day flew past us so fast, possibly b/c of the 2 1/2 hour nap we all got and the Pampered Chef party we went to, that we didn't get to the painting of the pumpkins. So our lazy Sunday afternoon was spent in part painting a pumpkin. A short lived activity since she only wanted to paint one!

The finished product!

Next post I promise to have more pictures of Roan....he still eats, sleeps, and poops! The exciting life of a baby.

We are blogging!

So I am going to give blogging an attempt....I love to read blogs of friends so I thought I would give this a try to help keep everyone up to date on the Willrich Family. I was so good at sending out pictures on a weekly, even daily, basis of Madeline when she was born that I feel so guilty that I haven't done much for Roan. It seems I don't have time to do much around the house with 2 kids, especially email pictures. So maybe this will work!

We have been a busy little family lately. Roan Gerard Willrich arrived on September 18, 2009 weighing in at 8lbs 9oz and 20 1/2 inches. Life has been hectic but fun with him at home. Madeline is doing great at being a big sister. She hugs, loves, and kisses on him frequently but does have her moments when she isn't so excited about him or "forgets" that she is so much bigger than he is but overall she has done well. I am often reminded by Madeline that "he is such a cutie"....doesn't that just melt you heart!

Pre-K 2 is going great for Madeline.....boy do they do work. I swear she comes home with half the rain forest each week in coloring papers and activities they have done. My next challenge is trying to decide which papers to keep...I don't want to throw any of it away but also do not want to end up on the show Hoarders because I can't get rid of any of Madeline's school work. Will work on that next week. Her latest and greatest school activity is selling cookie dough for the Fall fundraiser...and boy can she give you a sales pitch (with a little help from me.) So far she has sold Opa 2 boxes, Daddy 2 boxes, and last night she added another box to her list when she sold her Uncle A a box of cookie dough...next it's Mimi and Poppy!

Roan just eats, sleeps, and makes dirty diapers....I forgot how much babies sleep and how many diapers you go through! He is not a demanding baby in the least bit...so laid back and content. Let's see how long that will last! Each day he changes more and more.....putting on some nice weight! Last night was the first time he has slept for 4 1/2 hours straight....AMEN!!! We had a few rough nights over the week with him up but I am hoping we are working past that now.

Here are some pictures that we have taken over the past couple of weeks....
